Lace dresses were everywhere on the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks and are a key trend this season – as you can see from the teal dress worn by the Duchess of Cambridge this week to the Olympic Gala concert.

Have a heart: every t-shirt bought helps raise money for our Jubilee charities

We’ve launched a fitted white t-shirt, with a fun Union Jack heart design – perfect to wear at your Jubilee celebrations this summer.

Asda are the retail partner for The Big Jubilee Lunch so we are offering shoppers an official, limited edition Big Jubilee Lunch t-shirt, designed by George and made in Britain.

The t-shirt is just £8 and £2.50 from the sale of each t-shirt will be split between two Jubilee charities. Money will be donated to both the Eden Project, founders of The Big Lunch, and also Fields in Trust, a charity the Duke of Cambridge patrons.

It’s almost time for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations and we can hardly wait to get our Union Jacks out. We’ve got everything from Union Jack leggings and socks to wellies and flip-flops. And you can really make a statement at this summer’s street party celebrations in this gorgeous Union Jack print maxi dress from our G21 collection.

The dress is due to launch at the end of this month and a snip at just £18.

Inspirational trip to the vintage markets

Laura and Emma from the girlswear team visited the vintage markets and shops at Portobello road market, Spitalfields market and Brick lane last week.

Here’s what Laura said on the trip:

“Vintage shops and stalls are really great for inspiration, you can look back and see things that are relevant for today, or you might see something interesting you can take inspiration from. We saw these painted houses – we think that they would make a lovely colour pallet for Spring/Summer.

While looking around we found a lovely book “The Printed Square” by BBC costume designer Nicky Albrechtsen, who had a stall at Portobello and a studio in Brick lane full of vintage clothes and scarves. She was really interesting to meet as she has worked with some big designer names including Chanel, Marni and helped style from Vogue.

We have returned to the office excited and with lots of inspiration for Spring/Summer.”

Sales of nude tights are booming at George – inspired by everyone’s favourite style icon Kate Middleton, who’s been sporting them at royal engagements in recent months.

We’ve already seen the Kate phenomenon cause spikes in sales of macs and coloured jeans. Now it seems her penchant for skin-coloured tights has sparked another fashion trend and encouraged women to confidently show off their legs.

FAD students show their creativity in “Best of British” styling workshop

We’ve had another great day with our FAD students this week.

The students took part in an exciting styling workshop, where they customised donated George garments to create “Best of British” style. The workshop allowed the students to unleash their creativity and as you can see they certainly rose to the challenge.

Stephanie (age 17) took a pair of denim jeans and turned them into some funky appliquéd shorts. While Janice (age 18) took a jersey tunic and completely transformed it into a fringed crop top, modelled here by Priya (age 16)

Kasey (age 17) kept the styling more commercial and added a simple studded sleeve detailing. And Anita (age 17) added a collar to a collarless blouse and created a contemporary cold shoulder design.

Each student interpreted the clothes in a completely different way. It was great fun seeing the design transformations and brilliant to see the students so enthusiastic and inspired by the brief.

FAD is a great project for us to be involved in and support. For 16-18 year olds these students are extremely talented and it’s great that we can continually support their development. Another brilliant workshop set up by FAD!

Four ways to style our Jubilee dress

Fashion Awareness Direct Design Workshop

Our sponsored charity FAD has had an exciting few weeks…

Fashion Awareness Direct is an organisation that gives young people, especially those from less advantaged backgrounds, a realistic insight into the fashion industry.

Over the past 10 weeks our 100 FAD students, aged 16-18 years old, have been attending Saturday workshops in North and South London. They have been working on their own designs inspired by ‘Great British Design’ incorporating pieces from the V&A’s British Design galleries with their own vision of what it means to be British today.

The top 20 designs will win a place at a design summer school where they will have 5 days to recreate their designs.

These designs will be showcased at London Fashion Week. They will also be joined by 4 students from Manchester who have been taking part in Fashion Futures workshops throughout April and March.

All the students produced some amazing work. It’s hard to believe these students are only 16-18 years old! What’s even better is their passion for design. Students beamed as they summed up their experiences:

Our brand director Fiona Lambert introduces the hot new trends for Summer:

The two key influences for the Summer season are the Royals and the Olympics. Look out for beautiful dresses with lace, shimmer and sheen fabrics inspired by the Queen and Kate Middleton. Sports have also heavily influenced our ranges with simple shapes, neon tipping and great fabrics with a focus on jersey.

Be brave this Summer with bold colours and prints. Look out for beautiful aqua shades and bright yellows as well exciting new prints including tropical, tribal and conversational.

Key shapes were also highlighted at the show, pick up some printed palazzo’s, harem pants or brightly coloured skinny jeans to stay in style.
