Barbara Hulanicki’s new collection for George is creating a buzz before it’s even landed in store.
This week it’s been featured in She, Now, Look and Star magazines as well as handbag.com.
Her first range for George is out at the end of this month and features tunics, mini dresses, jersey tops and wide leg trousers. She has included all her signature shapes and has been involved in every stage of the design process, from the first illustrations to choosing the fabrics to fitting the clothes for the photoshoot.
We gave Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton a sneak preview of the clothes and she loved the purple top which she wore for today’s Radio 1 show, proving it’s not just the Biba generation that love Barbara Hulanicki’s new look. You can see more pictures of her wearing it in her webchat for Boots.
“I wanted to design a range for young thinking people of any age, people who are fun and care-free, and I think that I’ve achieved that with this collection,” says Barbara in her interview with handbag.com. “The range features lots of lovely flattering shapes and original prints of mine. It’s all great quality and good design at a low price, so I’m very pleased.”
We went behind the scenes at the photoshoot – watch this video for a preview of the collection and find out why Barbara is so proud of it.
George Brand Director Fiona Lambert says: “The real trend for a slightly 70s look is captured in her shapes. I think Barbara’s included all her favourite shapes and favourite pieces.”
Barbara has always championed affordable prices and her George collection will range from £8 to £25. She says: “That’s what makes me happy, seeing people buy something without feeling guilty. It’s a real pleasure of mine.”
She founded iconic fashion label Biba in the 1970s and we’ve received comments from customers who remember her first designs.
Cecilia Williams from Nuneaton says: “Hi Barbara, I have seen 5 of your items featured in ‘Now’ magazine. I especially love the green asymetric top …I want one of everything – good luck with your range, nice to see your clothes again, I wore them in the 70’s – and I look forward to wearing them in my 60’s.”
